Stephen Schmidt of Snapshot Science and Brian Gunning of Wausome Foods and Gunning Labs are teaming up to present several programs with a focus on the Walter Wick exhibits at the Woodson Art Museum in April! The exhibit, Games, Gizmos, and Toys in the Attic, is on view February 27 – May 29, 2016 and features photographs and 3D models by artist Walter Wick, most recognized for his ISPY books. Here are the program descriptions: April 2 Saturday 1 – 3 pm Art Park Open Studio All ages drop in to work with designer Brian Gunning to assemble and experiment with paper-craft illusions. See how your folded-paper object can fool the eye when perspective shifts. April 7 Thursday 5:30 – 7 pm Art 101/Hands-on-Art Bridging Art & Science Discover how Walter Wick’s optical tricks incorporate visually appealing design principles to educate children about aspects of science and create paper illusions during this presentation by Stephen Schmidt, freelance science teacher and Snapshot Science manager, and Brian Gunning, designer, inventor, and proprietor of Wausome Foods. April 16 Saturday 1 – 3 pm Family Science Join Snapshot Science instructors for hands-on demonstrations inspired by the optical illusions, mechanics, and scientific principles illustrated in Walter Wick’s photographs. Bring a camera and capture your own visual puzzle with the help of some scientific experimentation and creativity. April 20 Wednesday 12:15 – 1 pm Art 101 Bridging Art & Science Explore Walter Wick’s optical illusions and the visually appealing design principles behind them, which can be used to teach children science concepts.
